Using McKinney-Vento data collected by Seattle Public Schools, Columbia Legal Services analyzed how homelessness variously impact students according to race and ethnicity.
Following are our key findings:
- In Seattle, 1 in 9 Black students is homeless; 1 in 10 American-Indian students is homeless. By contrast, 1 in 71 White students is homeless.
- Students of color represent 84% of Seattle’s homeless student population, while they represent only 57% of the overall student population.
